A Moment That Shaped a Journey: Reflecting on Assisting Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan
At the start of the new year, co-founder Lucian reflects on the origin of his professional journey—his first experience, more than a decade ago (November 2015), of assisting the Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan throughout his participation in the Social Entrepreneurs Ecosystem Forum. More than a high-level international event, it was a profound “live lesson” in leadership.

During the forum, Mr. Annan delivered a keynote address as former UN Secretary-General, articulating the unique role of social enterprises in inclusive development and global governance.

In private conversations, he shared a humorous story of being mistaken by tourists for actor Morgan Freeman, revealing his wisdom and warmth. Particularly striking was the “Mandela Prison Number” bracelet worn by his accompanying assistant, UN senior official H.E. Lamin, symbolizing deep historical memory and values.

Mr. Annan personally carried his own luggage and, in the bitter cold, greeted each member of the welcoming delegation with a handshake and an apology. This humility and respect deeply moved Lucian. Experiencing such leadership firsthand inspired him to enter the field of global leadership engagement—a journey that continues to this day.
